This pot is a piece of classic blackware by Christine Custalow, a member of the Mattaponi tribe. For more information about the artist and her process, see this interview from 2007.

The photograph, by Mathias Tornqvist, was originally published in The Virginia Indian Heritage Trail (2007), produced by the Virginia Indian Program of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
