A Chickahominy man, wearing a suit and tie and carrying a hat and cane, poses in front of a rowboat docked at the bank of a river. The photograph, by James Mooney, was taken somewhere in Virginia in 1900. 

Mooney (1861–1921) was an Indiana native who worked for the Smithsonian Institution's Bureau of American Ethnology compiling information about American Indian tribes.
