DescriptionRappahannock tribal member Elsie Nelson poses for the photographer Frank G. Speck in Indian Neck sometime between 1914 and 1925. Speck (1881–1950) was a native of New York and a professor of anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specialized in Algonquian and Iroquoian tribes in the eastern United States and Canada.
