Iroquoian-Speaking Peoples.

Iroquoian-speaking peoples inhabited the south-central area of what is now Virginia, as well as the southwestern area below the New River. Cherokee people lived in the Southwestern region of Virginia, in the Blue Ridge mountains. The Meherrin, in central Virginia, gradually moved into what is now North Carolina during the colonial period, while the Nottoway maintained a reservation into the 1800s and have remained in their homelands.
